Glycerin is a natural component of fats and oils, which consist mainly of triglycerides (a combination of glycerin and three fatty acids). The glycerin that Weleda uses is obtained exclusively from plant oils. Glycerin is used as a moisturiser in cosmetic products as it is able to release the water it absorbs. Glycerin also makes oil-in-water emulsions easier to spread and has a smoothing and protecting effect on the skin.

Fragrance (Parfum) is the collective name for raw materials that are used to perfume cosmetic products. For such products, Weleda only ever uses a mixtures of natural essential oils. Synthetic fragrances are not utilised.

Magnesium sulfate, also known as Epsom salts has a stabilising effect especially in W/O emulsions (water-in-oil-emulsions) and improves the consistency of the emulsion. In our oral care products we use a highly diluted form of the mineral magnesium sulfate which according to the anthroposophical knowledge of man and nature helps to support the substance formation of the teeth and gums.

This liquid or crystalline, water-soluble compound, forms silica gel when hardened. It helps preserve formulations and acts as a topical antiseptic.

Potassium hydroxide is an inorganic base, which is used in a small amount to regulate the pH-value.

Sodium Citrate is a salt of citric acid. This raw material is used in small quantities to regulate pH-value.
